Just like any other art form, flower arrangement has a few rules that one must follow if you want to come up with amazing results that a lot of people will also appreciate. While the rules are not really that hard and fast kind, it certainly helps to create a foundation upon which you can start injecting your own personal tastes and preferences.

To start off, freshly cut your stems off so the flowers will be healthy for a long time. Another basic thing you need to know about flower arrangement is that there should be a background and a foreground. While the prettiest flower will serve as the focal point of your arrangement, know that the 'supporting actors' need a place of their own and in the right place at that. Always line the back with a few greens and pepper the sides with some sweet little beauties to add color and depth to your arrangement. Cut the flowers at different lengths to create shape. To add some flare to your arrangement, try mixing contrasting colors. Picking a variety of flowers with various texture and types with add to your bouquets originality. For a nice Contemporary look try red tulips all cut to the same length in a large vase.
