Busy kitchen bees know that it takes a lot of effort to navigate the heart of the home in order to come up with edible delights. And most of the time, an inefficient kitchen system causes them to waste time. Make your kitchen a more productive working area by installing an island right smack in the middle of it. Having an island will certainly make your time a lot more productive. Additionally, you can also have more storage space and more work space for your children, house mates or partner to come up with their own goodies. In no time, it will become the mist highly utilized spot in your kitchen.

The perfect kitchen island must have an easy to clean counter top. Marble or granite is the ideal surface, but for a homier feel a wood surface works quite well, too. Maximize the space underneath it by storing your frequently used kitchen equipment for easier access. For example, if you bake often you might want to store your mixers, spatulas and mixing bowls underneath your island. If cooking meals is more your thing, you might want to use the storage space of your island as a place to keep your electric choppers, chopping boards and assortment of cooking tools. A barstool or two also works well for your kitchen island to turn a work area into a breakfast space or an ideal spot for afternoon coffee conversations! Remember, a perfect island is one that not only provides an area for you to work on, but also a place to have meaningful interactions. If you have a handy person in your home have them make a custom Island from a marble slab and a set of wood cabinets.
